McKenzie's Chicken in a Box
If you’re looking for non-fast food, non-restaurant fried chicken in NOLA, this is a local favorite. They fry up whole pieces of chicken to order, and pack them in nice white boxes to go. Their chicken tastes like you could have picked this up from somebody’s grandmother’s house. They do take bulk orders, so if you’re having a party or just have a whole lot of hungry folks, give them a call beforehand and your chicken will be hot and ready when you get there. This isn’t an eat-in establishment, so there are no tables, but if you just had to have a bite before getting back in the car, there’s space in which to do so…although you’d likely be standing. Apparently, there are other things on the menu besides fried chicken, but I can’t vouch for any of it because when I go to Chicken in a Box, I’m going for the chicken.
